Ripping to MP3 using Rhythmbox

posted 11 Jan 2010, 10:42 by Ian Gilliam
To rip or encode to MP3 using Gnome's Rhythmbox you must install the gstreamer-x.xx-lame for the distribution (and lame itself).  Once this is done if you restart Rhythmbox you should find that you know be able to select the MP3 option in the Music tab within Preferences.

MP3 audio encoding will be set to VBR by default.  If you want to alter this to CBR then edit and change the line that reads:

audio/x-raw-int,rate=44100,channels=2 ! lame name=enc mode=0 vbr-quality=6 ! id3v2mux

to read:

audio/x-raw-int,rate=44100,channels=2 ! lame name=enc mode=0 vbr=0 bitrate=128 ! id3v2mux
